Sunday, April 25th
The past several days have been good to a lot of striped
bass fishermen. Striped Bass in the Rondout Creek and
Hudson River being boated in the teens and twenty pound range.
Live herring on Saturday was the prime bait.
Reports of heavy hits, but losing the striper before boating it.
Conditions on the Rondout Creek and the
Hudson River have been good, but there are still some trees lurking
where they should not be.
Shore fishermen have been enjoying themselves. Most
of the fishing was south of the Kingston Lighthouse, but
now they are spreading out and using the Kingston Pt. Beach, Rotary
Park, Ulster Landing, Charlie Ryder and
a few other locations that are private, but get used anyway.
Water temperatures have been bouncing this season.
Saturday they ranged from 54 to 58 degrees in the River

Rondout Creek and the Hudson River are in good condition.
There is still debris that you have to watch for, but not bad.
Herring are showing up in larger numbers with the stripers right
behind them.
Today many stripers in the twenty pound range were caught and
released.
Shore fishermen have been quiet this week. They was
a slight surge this afternoon, but most say that the cold was
getting to them. Temperature is dropping and this weekend may
be a cold and nasty two days.

Creek is still running very shiftly with a lot of debris.
Two boats have already been hit by floating debris.
A lot of tree trunks and junk is just below the water level. You
do not see it until you hit it!
If you do decide to go out, be carefull and keep your
eyes open. We have seen a lot of
foolishness the past few weeks with boaters out there with no
life jackets, wrestling on the
boat, hanging legs off the bow and trying to outrun the current
after a heavy rain. We do not
have the Sherrifs on the River yet, so if something happens and
you need help it may
take a while before help can come your way. This River is no place
to fool
around in, especially this time of year.
Stripers are being caught at Sleightsburg Spit and
River Road. It appears that the shore fishermen
will have another good season. They have been using frozen herring
and now bloods and sands.
We now have Bloodworms @ $8.50 per doz.& Sandworms
@ $6.00 per doz.
Herring will not be available unitl the Falls calms down and the
bait boats are launched.
Docks will start to go in this weekend.
The Striper Seminar went off very well. Attendance
was up this year with a lot of new faces.
